Calcium tablets and D3 with K2 drops, softgels and gummies

Our work as a bone health supplement manufacturer covers custom bone health supplements for premium brands, taken from formulation to finished product in our UK facility. We make dense calcium tablets; effervescent and chewable tablets; vitamin D3 and K2 (MK-7) softgels, capsules, drops and gummies; and powders and stick packs with calcium, protein and collagen peptides. Every formula is built on nutrients with authorised bone claims: calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K, magnesium, protein, zinc and manganese. Each goes in at the dose its claim sets, from 0.75 µg of vitamin D to at least 400 mg of calcium per portion. Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories and comes with a certificate of analysis. Your formula is yours.

Vitamin D status leaves room to act: in the UK's National Diet and Nutrition Survey 2019 to 2023, 18% of adults aged 19 to 64 and 12% of adults aged 65 and over had blood vitamin D below 25 nmol per litre.

Carbonate or citrate, MK-7 or K1: choosing each bone nutrient

We specify every nutrient by form, grade and dose, use only forms permitted in GB and EU food supplements, and approve every supplier before first use.

Nutrient Forms we use What the choice changes
Calcium Carbonate, citrate, citrate malate, lactate, gluconate, phosphates, bisglycinate Carbonate is 40% calcium and citrate 21%: carbonate makes smaller tablets, citrate absorbs without food
Vitamin D Cholecalciferol (D3) from lanolin, or lichen for vegan ranges; ergocalciferol (D2) D3 raised vitamin D status more effectively than D2 in a meta-analysis of seven trials (Tripkovic and colleagues, 2012)
Vitamin K Phylloquinone (K1); menaquinone (K2) as all-trans MK-7 MK-7 has a longer half-life than K1; only the all-trans form is active
Magnesium Citrate, bisglycinate, malate, carbonate, oxide Oxide is dense but alkaline, which matters beside K2; see magnesium supplement manufacturing
Protein Whey, milk proteins, plant protein blends, collagen peptides Collagen peptides lack tryptophan, so they sit beside a complete protein
Boron Boric acid, sodium borate The two boron forms permitted in GB and EU food supplements
Zinc, manganese and vitamin C Zinc bisglycinate or citrate; manganese salts; ascorbic acid and ascorbates Each carries a bone claim at a source level

Vitamin K2 (MK-7)

Brands looking for a vitamin K2 manufacturer start from MK-7 powder or oil. EU rules define menaquinone in food supplements as occurring principally as MK-7, with some MK-6, and GB lists menaquinone among its permitted forms, so our UK and EU formulas use MK-7; US formulas use MK-7 or MK-4 (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements). In GB and the EU, MK-7 made by synthesis or by fermentation is an authorised novel food, labelled as menaquinone or vitamin K2. We buy MK-7 as an oil for softgels and drops, or as a microencapsulated powder for tablets, capsules and gummies, and specify its all-trans content, cis isomers and purity.

Boron

In the US, boron also comes as calcium fructoborate and other forms. EFSA set an adult upper level of 10 mg a day (EFSA, 2004), against 20 mg in the US. Human evidence on boron and bone remains preliminary (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, 2022), and no boron claim is authorised in GB or the EU, so boron sits at a modest dose beside calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K.

Two risk reduction claims for women aged 50 and over

As of October 2026, these bone claims are on the GB nutrition and health claims register and the EU register, in this exact wording, each for a product that is at least a source of the nutrient.

Nutrient Authorised claim
Calcium "Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones"
Vitamin D "Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones"; "Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus"
Vitamin K "Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones"
Magnesium "Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones"
Protein "Protein contributes to the maintenance of normal bones", where at least 12% of the energy comes from protein
Zinc and manganese "Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal bones", with the same wording for manganese
Vitamin C "Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones"
Calcium and vitamin D for children "Calcium and vitamin D are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children"

Two authorised risk reduction claims concern bone mineral in post-menopausal women. The calcium claim needs at least 400 mg of calcium per quantified portion; the calcium and vitamin D claim is for food supplements with at least 400 mg of calcium and 15 µg of vitamin D per daily portion. Both are intended for women aged 50 and over, and the consumer is told that the effect needs at least 1,200 mg of calcium a day from all sources, plus at least 20 µg of vitamin D for the combined claim. Brands receive the exact wording at label review. MK-7 carries the vitamin K claim; boron and collagen carry no claim of their own.

In the US, labels make structure and function claims with FDA's standard disclaimer, and FDA's own health claim for calcium and vitamin D uses its set wording. Our claims and regulation page covers each market in depth.

Why MK-7 is the nutrient most likely to fail in a bone formula

Development runs as a paid R&D stage, which can be included with an order of the right size.

Claim levels, upper levels and the 400 mg portion

Bone claims need at least a source level, which we set at 15% of the nutrient reference value per daily dose: 120 mg of calcium, 0.75 µg of vitamin D, 11.25 µg of vitamin K and about 56 mg of magnesium. EFSA's adult upper levels set the ceiling: 2,500 mg of calcium, 100 µg of vitamin D, 250 mg of supplemental magnesium and 25 mg of zinc a day, with none set for vitamin K (EFSA, 2025). The calcium and vitamin D claim for women aged 50 and over needs at least 400 mg of calcium and 15 µg of vitamin D per daily portion, roughly 1 g of calcium carbonate, so the portion splits across two tablets or moves into a powder. As the NHS notes that more than 1.5 mg of vitamin A a day over many years may affect bones, bone formulas keep preformed vitamin A low.

Smaller calcium doses absorb better

Calcium absorption falls as the dose rises: about 36% of a 300 mg dose is absorbed, against 28% of a 1,000 mg dose, and absorption is highest at 500 mg or less (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements). So we split higher doses into morning and evening servings. Vitamins D and K are fat-soluble, so softgels and drops carry them in oil, and directions for tablets pair them with a meal.

Keeping MK-7 away from magnesium oxide

MK-7 is the nutrient most likely to fail in a bone formula. In a study of MK-7 powders blended with minerals, magnesium oxide degraded every grade, an effect the authors link to alkalinity; one synthetic powder lost half its MK-7 within a month at 25°C and 60% relative humidity, while the purest grade held for 12 months beside calcium salts. Of seven commercial supplements tested, MK-7 ranged from 5% to 117% of the label claim, and one at 106% was only 23.4% all-trans (Orlando and colleagues, Molecules, 2019). So we specify high-purity, microencapsulated all-trans MK-7, keep it apart from magnesium oxide, and test all-trans MK-7 at release and through stability.

Iron, warfarin and vitamin K

Calcium reduces iron absorption, so bone formulas leave iron out, and people taking warfarin and similar anticoagulants need a consistent vitamin K intake (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements). Labels advise anyone taking medicines to speak to their doctor or pharmacist before use.

Calcium takes room, so gummies carry D3 and K2 instead

We make every format below in our UK facility, which is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and FDA registered. BRCGS implementation under way, certification expected in early 2027.

  • Tablets carry dense calcium and magnesium formulas, film-coated, oval and within the 22 mm largest dimension that FDA's guidance on generic tablets recommends (FDA, 2022). See capsule and tablet manufacturing.
  • Effervescent and chewable tablets turn calcium and vitamin D into a drink or a chew. See effervescent tablet manufacturing.
  • Capsules, softgels and drops carry vitamin D3 with K2, alone or with magnesium; capsules and liquids are GMP certified.
  • Gummies carry vitamins D3 and K2, are GMP certified, and get an active assay on every batch as standard. Claim-level calcium takes too much room, so gummies carry little or none. See gummy manufacturing.
  • Powders, sachets and stick packs carry gram doses of calcium, protein and collagen peptides. See collagen supplement manufacturing.

Protein and vitamin D also anchor our muscle health supplements, and bone formulas sit within our healthy ageing supplement manufacturing range. The range also takes in newer actives such as urolithin A and NAD+ precursors, where each market allows them.

Granulating calcium and keeping MK-7 away from alkaline minerals

Our HACCP study for each product type, reviewed annually, sets the critical control points.

  1. Approve and receive. Calcium salts come from approved suppliers against a specification with limits for lead and other heavy metals; MK-7 arrives with its all-trans content and purity on the certificate of analysis.
  2. Pre-blend. Microgram nutrients, vitamin D3 and K2, are diluted step by step into a carrier, so every unit carries its dose.
  3. Granulate and blend. Calcium carbonate is granulated so it flows and compresses, and MK-7 joins the blend apart from alkaline minerals.
  4. Press or fill. Tablets are compressed and checked for weight, hardness and disintegration; softgels and drops take D3 and K2 in oil under nitrogen.
  5. Coat, pack and check labels. Film coats ease swallowing and shield from light, and labels are verified on every batch as our critical control point, CCP-01.
  6. Retain and release. We keep three retained samples per batch for shelf life plus one year, and quality control releases each batch against its specification.

How a bone health supplement manufacturer tests all-trans MK-7

Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025), and batch testing is part of every order. Quality control releases every batch against its specification, and nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off, as our testing and batch release page explains.

  • Minerals: calcium, magnesium, zinc and boron by ICP-OES or ICP-MS.
  • Vitamins: vitamin D3 by HPLC or LC-MS, and K1 and MK-7 by HPLC methods that separate all-trans MK-7 from its cis isomers.
  • Protein: Kjeldahl nitrogen multiplied by 6.25, for the protein claim.
  • Contaminants: lead, cadmium and mercury against the EU limits for food supplements of 3.0, 1.0 and 0.10 mg/kg, plus microbiology.
  • Stability: accelerated and real-time studies on every new formula, tracking MK-7 and vitamin D3 to the end of shelf life.

We size every overage from stability data on your product and pack, so labels stay within EU tolerances and meet the US rule of at least 100% of each declared nutrient. When your bone formula is ready to brief, Start your project.

Questions brands ask

What does a bone health supplement manufacturer do?

A bone health supplement manufacturer develops and produces bone health products, from formulation to finished pack. At British VitaTech that means choosing calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K2, magnesium and protein at the doses their authorised claims need, keeping K2 stable beside minerals, and designing formats older customers take every day. We make tablets, capsules, softgels, gummies, drops and powders in the UK, every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories, and the brand owns the formula.

Which bone health claims are authorised in the UK and EU?

As of October 2026, nutrient claims such as "Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones" and "Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones" are authorised, each for a product that is at least a source of the nutrient. Vitamin K, magnesium, protein, zinc and manganese carry bone claims too. Two risk reduction claims, for calcium and for calcium with vitamin D, are intended for women aged 50 and over and need at least 400 mg of calcium per portion.

Do you make vitamin D3 and K2 (MK-7) supplements?

Yes, as softgels, drops, capsules, tablets and gummies. As of October 2026, EU rules define menaquinone in food supplements as mainly MK-7, so our UK and EU formulas use all-trans MK-7, while US formulas can use MK-7 or MK-4. "Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones" needs 11.25 µg of vitamin K a day, and the matching vitamin D claim 0.75 µg; EFSA's upper level for vitamin D is 100 µg.

How do you keep vitamin K2 stable in a formula with minerals?

By choosing a high-purity grade and keeping it apart from alkaline minerals. In a 2019 study, magnesium oxide degraded every MK-7 powder tested, and one synthetic grade lost half its MK-7 within a month, while the purest grade held for 12 months beside calcium salts. We specify microencapsulated all-trans MK-7, keep magnesium oxide out of the same blend, and test all-trans MK-7 by HPLC at release and through stability.

Can a bone formula include boron?

Yes, at a modest dose. As of October 2026, boron is permitted in GB and EU food supplements as boric acid or sodium borate, and US products also use forms such as calcium fructoborate. EFSA set an adult upper level of 10 mg a day, against 20 mg in the US. No boron claim is authorised in GB or the EU, so boron sits beside calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K, which carry claims of their own.

How much calcium fits in a daily dose?

Less per tablet than most brands expect. Calcium carbonate is 40% calcium, so the 400 mg in the claim for women aged 50 and over takes about 1 g of carbonate, split across two tablets or moved into a powder. Absorption is highest at 500 mg or less per dose, so we split higher doses into morning and evening servings, and we stay within EFSA's adult upper level of 2,500 mg a day.

Can bone health products be sold to people using weight-loss medicines?

Yes, as nutrition products carrying nutrient claims. In a 2024 randomised trial, liraglutide alone lowered hip and spine bone mineral density compared with exercise, while exercise combined with the medicine preserved it. As of October 2026, no authorised claim in GB or the EU refers to GLP-1 or weight-loss medicines, so labels carry claims such as "Calcium is needed for the maintenance of normal bones" and copy stays inside the register's wording.
