Project stories: how we solve formulation challenges
British VitaTech develops and manufactures custom supplements and cosmetics in Leicester for premium wellness brands. Our supplement case studies show, anonymously and with each client's permission, how we solve formulation, testing and market challenges.

Supplement case studies: four formulation problems we solve
Our supplement case studies show how a hard brief becomes a product that works: the challenge, the science, the testing and the result. We tell them anonymously, because a client's formula, suppliers and plans belong to the client. As a contract manufacturer of custom and private label supplements, we make every product in our Leicester facility, which is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and FDA registered.
The four examples below are capability examples, not client stories. Each describes a formulation problem we solve and links to the page that explains our method. None reports a client's results.
How we mask a bitter high-dose active
Magnesium salts and botanical extracts can taste bitter, salty or metallic at the doses that work, and cutting the dose to fix the taste breaks the product. People carry about 25 bitter taste receptors, each tuned to a different range of molecules (Meyerhof and colleagues, 2010), so one masker rarely solves it alone. We map the off-note at full dose, then layer sweetener systems, bitter maskers and, where chemistry falls short, coating or encapsulation. A blind triangle test to ISO 4120 shows whether a change can be tasted, and an assay confirms the dose survived. Our flavour development and taste masking page explains the method.
How we keep a moisture-sensitive gummy stable
Gummies trade moisture with the air around them. Too much water and a gummy sweats, sticks and gives yeasts and moulds a foothold; too little and it turns hard. Water activity, the measure of water available to microbes and reactions, also governs how fast sensitive actives degrade. We dry every batch to a target moisture and water activity, replace acid sanding, which pulls water from humid air, with an oil and wax coating where the route to market calls for it, and specify packs with a low moisture vapour transmission rate, often with a desiccant. Overages come from stability data, and every gummy batch gets an active assay as standard. See gummy manufacturing and stability testing and shelf life.
How we label one formula for each market
The same formula carries different words in each market, and a label that is right in one can fail in the next. We design one formula for the strictest market on the plan, then build each label to its rules. As of October 2026, a food supplement sold in Great Britain carries the name "food supplement", the recommended daily portion and a warning not to exceed it; in the EU, mandatory information appears in a language consumers easily understand, and each member state can require one or more of the EU's official languages; and in the US, a dietary supplement carries a Supplement Facts panel. We check every label against these rules at artwork stage, and label verification on every batch is the critical control point in our HACCP plan. Our global markets page sets out the rules by market.
How we match an existing product after a move
A brand moving manufacturer needs the new product to match the old one so closely that customers notice nothing. We work from the brand's own specification, never by copying another company's product, and compare our samples with retained samples of the current product on actives, physical properties and taste, with a blind triangle test confirming the match. Stability then runs on our product in the final pack. Our guide to moving your supplements to a new manufacturer explains each step.
Behind every example sits the same development process: brief, evidence review, formulation, bench samples, blind sensory panels, a pilot batch on production equipment, stability in the final pack, and scale-up into routine production. Each stage leaves a record you keep, and every batch comes with a certificate of analysis and a batch release confirmation.
Your formula is yours, whatever the problem: the formula, its specification and the data behind it belong to your brand, as our formula ownership commitment sets out. R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size.
Client stories in four parts, starting with a UK pouch brand
Each story is told with the client's permission, in four parts: the challenge, the science, the testing and the result.
A UK pouch brand: growth to over 30,000 units a month
The challenge. A UK pouch brand has been our client since 2023 and started out as a small brand. Its growth asked three things of its manufacturer: distinct formulas, a path through each new market's regulatory and compliance checks, and shipments split across its fulfilment partners.
The science. Our research and development team developed four distinct formulas for the brand, and the work continues: when ingredients improve or market conditions shift, our R&D team proposes a formula update. As on every project, nothing changes without the brand's sign-off.
The testing. Each market sets its own rules for what a product may contain, what its label must say and which documents travel with it. As the brand expanded into Europe, the USA and Mexico, we guided it through the regulatory and compliance checks each market asks for. As with every order we make, every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories, labels are verified on every batch, and quality control releases each batch against its specification before it ships. Our testing and batch release page explains how.
The result. The brand has grown from a small brand to over 30,000 units a month and has expanded into Europe, the USA and Mexico. We split shipments across its fulfilment partners.
What our client says, and how we publish stories
"They've felt less like a supplier and more like a partner in the business." (UK pouch brand, client since 2023)
We publish a story only with the client's permission, anonymously unless they agree to be named, and we keep the agreement on file. We add stories as clients agree to them, in the same four parts.
For your next product, ask any manufacturer for the method and the data behind its stories, and plan your own proof from the brief: the specification, the stability data and a certificate of analysis for every batch. Our supplement FAQ answers the questions brands ask about manufacturing, development and ownership.
Start your project with the problem you want solved, and we will scope the R&D stage around it.

What to watch
Client confidentiality: stories stay anonymous unless a client agrees
Questions brands ask
Why are your supplement case studies anonymous?
Because a client's formula, suppliers and plans belong to the client. We publish a project story only with the client's permission, and anonymously unless the client agrees to be named. Anonymity lets us show the challenge, the science, the testing and the result without exposing anything commercially sensitive. The client reviews the story before it goes live, and we keep its agreement on file.
Are the examples on this page client projects?
Only the pouch brand story is a client project, told with the client's permission. The four examples under what we solve are capability examples: they describe problems we solve, such as masking a bitter active or keeping a gummy stable, and link to the pages that explain our method. They report no client results. We add client stories as clients agree to them, in the same four parts: challenge, science, testing and result.
Can you fix a product that isn't working?
Yes. We start with why the current product falls short, whether that is taste, stability, dose accuracy or claims coverage, and test the existing product where that helps. The new version then goes through bench samples, sensory panels and stability like any new formula, and nothing changes without your sign-off. R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size, and the improved formula is yours.
Who owns the formula you develop for us?
You do. Your formula is yours: the formula, its specification and the data behind it, including stability and test results, belong to your brand, and we never sell it or offer it to anyone else. A brand that owns its formula can move production to another site, and owns something a buyer or investor can value. Our formula ownership page sets out exactly what you own.
Is every batch tested?
Yes. Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025) as part of every order, and quality control releases it against its agreed specification. Nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off. Gummies get an active assay on every batch as standard, and we keep three retained samples from each batch for its shelf life plus one year. Our testing and batch release page explains the test panel for each product and market.
How do we start a project like these?
Start your project with a brief: the format, the actives and doses, the markets and channels you plan to sell in, the claims you want and the problem you need solved. We screen the brief, check each ingredient's status in your markets and scope the R&D stage before work begins. You sign off at every gate: sample, specification, label and first batch, so nothing reaches production without your agreement.
