Leicester-made private label supplements, labelled for each market

British VitaTech makes private label supplements for premium wellness brands in our Leicester facility: capsules, tablets, softgels, gummies, powders, sachets and stick packs, liquids, functional drinks and functional pouches. We take each one from formulation to finished, labelled stock for the UK, the EU and the US, in packaging developed for its formula. Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories and released by quality control. You receive the finished product specification, stability data and a claims review for each market, and a certificate of analysis and batch release confirmation with every batch.

Your own formula or a custom one under your label

Private label supplements carry your brand on a product made for you. The question that matters is whose formula sits inside. At British VitaTech, bespoke development leads: we make your own formula under your label, or develop a custom formula for you, and either way the brand owns it. As a UK contract manufacturer, we take on programmes larger than ourselves with our partner network of laboratories and ingredient suppliers.

Brands are outsourcing more of the work. Capstone Partners' Vitamins and Supplements M&A Update (June 2026) reports growing use of contract manufacturers as brands outsource formulation, flavourings, manufacturing and packaging to reach market faster, without building facilities, and to offer formats such as powders, liquids, chewables and gummies. Retailer brands are gaining across the shelf: Circana data published by PLMA show US store brands reaching a record 23.5% unit share in 2025, up from 21.6% in 2021, across all products rather than supplements alone. When the shelf fills with own label, your formula becomes your point of difference.

Private label, white label and custom compared

When you compare private label supplement manufacturers, ask which of these three routes you are buying.

What differs White label Private label Custom
The formula The manufacturer's stock formula Your own formula, or one developed for you A new formula developed from your brief
Who owns it The manufacturer Your brand, with us Your brand, with us
Point of difference The label alone: the same formula can sit under other brands Your formula under your label Formula, dose, format and taste built around your customer
Development None beyond artwork Technical review, then matching or improvement Evidence review, prototypes, sensory panels, pilot batch and stability
Claims and labels Fixed by the stock formula Reviewed for each market Designed in from the brief for each market
Where it fits Testing demand with a generic product A brand with a proven formula A brand building a premium range

Private label and custom meet in the middle: a brand can bring a formula and ask us to improve its taste, dose or stability. We lead with ownership, because a formula you own is a product you control.

Custom formulation

Custom formulation starts from your customer and the evidence, not from a catalogue. Our R&D team matches each ingredient's form and dose to the human studies behind it, screens every ingredient for novel food status in-house against the public registers, and checks which claims each market allows before the first bench sample. Form decides dose and format: magnesium oxide carries far more magnesium per gram than magnesium bisglycinate, so the same magnesium dose from bisglycinate needs a larger fill, which changes capsule count, sachet size and taste. Bench samples, blind sensory panels, a pilot batch and stability in the final pack follow. R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size. We scope it before work begins. See how our research and development team works.

How a private label project runs, gate by gate

Private label and custom projects run through the same eight stages, with your sign-off at every gate.

  1. Brief and mutual NDA. We agree the customer, format, markets, claims and positioning, and sign a mutual NDA before you share a formula.
  2. Screening. We check every ingredient's novel food status, permitted forms and amounts, and the claims each market allows.
  3. Formulation. We review and document your formula, or develop a custom one, in a scoped R&D stage.
  4. Samples. Bench samples go through blind sensory work, and you approve the sample and the finished product specification.
  5. Stability. Pilot product goes on stability in the final pack to set the shelf life you print.
  6. Labels for each market. We review claims, mandatory statements and artwork for the UK, the EU and the US.
  7. First production. Materials come from suppliers approved before use, and the batch is released by quality control against its specification.
  8. Launch and repeat orders. Repeat batches run to the same specification, and we track rule and evidence changes for your ingredients.

Owning the formula is what makes private label yours

Your formula is yours. Whether you bring a formula or we develop one with you, the formula, its specification and the data behind it belong to your brand, and we never sell it or offer it to anyone else. In private label, ownership is what separates your product from a label on someone else's formula. Read how formula ownership works.

Tests, formats and labels from your supplement contract manufacturer

Testing and documents

Every batch is released by quality control against its specification, and nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off. Labels are verified on every batch as the critical control point in our HACCP study. Suppliers are approved before any material is used, we run an allergen management plan, and we keep three retained samples per batch for shelf life plus one year. Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025) as part of every order, for identity, active content and contaminants set per product and market, and gummies get an active assay on every batch as standard, as our page on testing and batch release explains.

Specifications follow the law and official guidance. As of October 2026, GB maximum levels for food supplements are 3.0 mg/kg for lead and 0.1 mg/kg for mercury, and European Commission guidance expects vitamins to stay within plus 50% and minus 20% of the declared value through shelf life, so we set overages and stability targets that keep your product inside that range until its best before date. You receive the documents that prove your product: the finished product specification, raw material specifications, stability data, a certificate of analysis and batch release confirmation for every batch, and a claims review for each market.

Marketplaces ask for this evidence. As of October 2026, Amazon's US store requires dietary supplements to be verified through a third-party testing, inspection and certification (TIC) organisation, and TikTok Shop's US rules for dietary supplements ask for a recent test report from an approved laboratory. We make products for Amazon US and TikTok Shop US and prepare the documents they ask for; Amazon's US GMP verification needs a third-party 21 CFR 111 audit, which we plan around each US programme.

British VitaTech is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and FDA registered. BRCGS implementation under way, certification expected in early 2027. The certificate scopes are on our quality and accreditations page.

Formats, packaging and the categories we cover

We make capsules, tablets, softgels, gummies, powders, sachets and stick packs, liquids, functional drinks and functional pouches in-house in Leicester. Capsules, gummies, pouches and liquids are GMP certified. Start with capsule and tablet manufacturing, or compare every option, from powders and drink mixes to gummies, in our guide to supplement formats.

We develop and supply the packaging for every product we make, from bottles, jars and tubs to pouches, sachets and stick packs, with closure, liner and desiccant chosen for your formula and confirmed in stability. Every unit carries its batch code and best before date.

Categories run from sports nutrition, gut health and healthy ageing to sleep and stress, women's health, beauty from within and cognitive health. Each has its own evidence, claims and regulation to watch, set out across the supplement categories we develop.

Labels for every market

Your brand is responsible for its label. As of October 2026, in GB and the EU, responsibility sits with the business whose name the food is sold under or, where that business is based outside the market, with the importer. A GB brand selling into the EU therefore needs an EU-established operator or importer on pack, and an EU brand selling into GB needs one in the British Islands. We build each label to its market, and our guide to claims, evidence and regulation by market has the detail:

  • GB: sold as a "food supplement", with the names of the nutrient or substance categories, the amount of each, the recommended daily portion, a warning not to exceed the stated recommended daily dose, a statement that food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet, and a statement that the product should be stored out of the reach of young children. Health claims come from the GB nutrition and health claims register, with its conditions of use, and we use the register's exact wording.
  • EU: the same mandatory statements, claims from the EU Register with their conditions of use, and a model of the label for national notification wherever a member state requires one.
  • US: a Supplement Facts panel, your name with a phrase such as "Manufactured for" or "Distributed by", and structure/function claims carrying the FDA disclaimer, with FDA notified after first marketing.

We never use medicinal claims, and every regulatory check is dated.

Plans agreed after screening, with six commitments to your brand

We publish no timescales. Each project depends on its formula, materials, testing and markets, so we agree the plan with you after screening. We commit to:

  • A scoped R&D stage, agreed before work begins
  • Your sign-off at every gate: sample, specification, label and first batch
  • No change to your formula without your written approval
  • Every batch released by quality control against its specification
  • Regulatory checks for each market, dated and repeated when the rules change
  • Documents that belong to your brand: specification, stability data and claims review

Questions brands ask

What is the difference between private label and white label supplements?

White label is a manufacturer's stock formula sold under your label: the manufacturer owns the formula, and the same product can sit under other brands. Private label is a product made under your label from your own formula or one developed for you, and with us the formula belongs to your brand. Custom goes further: we develop the formula from your brief, with evidence review, prototypes, sensory work and stability.

Who owns the formula in a private label project?

Your brand does. Your formula is yours. Whether you bring it or we develop it with you, the formula, its specification and its data belong to your brand, and we never sell it or offer it to anyone else. We sign a mutual NDA before any formula changes hands, and you receive the documents that show exactly what your product is.

Can you make our existing formula under our label?

Yes. We review your formula against your specification and label, screen every ingredient for novel food status in-house against the public registers, and check its claims for each market. Then we confirm it on samples and run stability in the final pack. If the review finds a better form, dose or flavour system, we propose it, and nothing changes without your sign-off.

Is development charged on a private label project?

R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size. We scope it before work begins, so you know what it covers: evidence review, formulation rounds, sensory work, a pilot batch and stability for a custom formula, or technical review and confirmation work for your own formula. The formula, specification and data it produces belong to your brand.

Which formats and categories do you make?

We make capsules, tablets, softgels, gummies, powders, sachets and stick packs, liquids, functional drinks and functional pouches in-house in Leicester, and we develop and supply the packaging for each, from bottles and tubs to pouches and sticks. Categories include sports nutrition, gut health, healthy ageing, sleep and stress, women's health, beauty from within and cognitive health. Our formats and categories guides show which format suits each one.

How is each batch checked and released?

Every batch is released by quality control against its specification, and nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off. Labels are verified on every batch as the critical control point in our HACCP study. Every batch is also tested by accredited partner laboratories as part of every order, for identity, active content and contaminants set per product and market, so each product gets the tests its ingredients, claims and sales channels need.

Can you prepare labels for the UK, the EU and the US?

Yes. We review labels and claims for each market. GB and EU labels carry the mandatory food supplement statements and only claims from the GB or EU registers, which we use in their exact wording, and we prepare the label model for EU countries that require notification. US labels carry a Supplement Facts panel, a "Manufactured for" or "Distributed by" line and the FDA disclaimer for structure/function claims.
