Weight, blood sugar and GLP-1 companion products, made in the UK
Custom weight management and metabolic health supplements for brands are developed and made in our facility, where we work as a bespoke weight loss supplement manufacturer. We make GLP-1 companion products; glucomannan in 1 g servings for its authorised weight claim; meal replacements built to the legal composition, at 200 to 250 kcal a meal; chromium blood sugar formulas; and keto and apple cider vinegar products. Formats run from capsules, tablets and gummies to powders, stick packs and shots. Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories and comes with its certificate of analysis, and the brand owns the formula.
Protein and fibre for GLP-1 users, and two other trends
Three product types lead weight management development now.
- GLP-1 companion nutrition. Protein to help maintain muscle, fibre, targeted micronutrients and hydration, in smaller servings for people who eat less. Active users in a nine-market BCG survey say they will spend about 20% more on protein and fibre supplements and collagen (BCG, 2026). See GLP-1 support supplement manufacturing.
- Blood sugar formulas. Chromium and fibres timed to meals carry authorised claims. Botanicals such as white mulberry and bitter melon add the story, but the label claim comes from the nutrient or fibre.
- Meal replacement and complete nutrition. Shakes built to the legal composition for weight control claims, including maintenance of weight after weight loss. US sales of protein supplements and meal replacements grew 9% in 2024 (SPINS, 2025).
Private label weight loss products put a brand's logo on a stock formula. A bespoke formula gives a brand doses that meet the claim conditions, a format customers use every day and a specification competitors cannot buy from a catalogue. Your formula is yours. Our formula ownership commitment sets out how.
From fat burners to fibres with authorised claims
As a weight management supplement manufacturer, we specify every active by form, grade and dose against the claim it has to carry, using the GB and EU registers as of October 2026, and every supplier passes our approval process first. For newer actives such as exogenous ketones and concentrated mulberry or bitter melon extracts and peptides, we confirm novel food status for each target market before formulation.
Traditional weight-loss supplements
Stimulant blends and single-botanical "fat burners" are the shrinking end of the category, and as of October 2026 Garcinia cambogia supplements are suspended from sale in France. We rebuild these products around ingredients with authorised claims, in capsules, powders and stick packs. Where a brief includes green tea extract, we keep its EGCG within each market's limits.
Glucomannan and fibres with authorised claims
Glucomannan, from konjac, carries an authorised weight claim: "Glucomannan in the context of an energy restricted diet contributes to weight loss". Each serving provides 1 g; the label explains that the effect comes with 3 g a day in three 1 g doses, taken with one or two glasses of water before meals as part of an energy-restricted diet; and the pack carries a choking warning for people with swallowing difficulties or low fluid intake. Glucomannan swells fast, so we put it in capsules and powders taken with water, not gummies or chews.
Other fibres carry claims for a reduced blood glucose rise after a meal, each at a set dose in that meal: 4 g of oat or barley beta-glucans for each 30 g of available carbohydrate, 8 g of arabinoxylan-rich fibre from wheat endosperm for each 100 g of available carbohydrate, 4 g of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), or 10 g of pectins. The last two also need the choking warning.
Meal replacement and complete nutrition
Two authorised claims cover meal replacements. Substituting two of the main daily meals of an energy-restricted diet with meal replacements contributes to weight loss; substituting one contributes to the maintenance of weight after weight loss, a claim that suits people coming off GLP-1 medicines. Both set the recipe: 200 to 250 kcal per meal, 25% to 50% of energy from protein, no more than 30% from fat, at least 1 g of linoleic acid, at least 30% of the reference values for vitamins and minerals, at least 500 mg of potassium and 172.5 mg of sodium, and label advice on fluid intake. In the EU, total diet replacement for weight control has its own composition rules (Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1798).
Chromium and blood sugar nutrients
Chromium anchors blood sugar products: "Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels". The product must be at least a source of trivalent chromium, 15% of the 40 µg reference value, or 6 µg, in the daily dose. We use permitted forms such as chromium picolinate and chromium chloride.
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar moved from the bottle into gummies and capsules, but it carries no authorised claim in GB or the EU. One Japanese trial gave 750 to 1,500 mg of acetic acid a day, in a vinegar drink, over three months (Kondo and colleagues, 2009). Vinegar powders vary widely in acetic acid, so we specify and test acetic acid per serving, not vinegar weight.
MCT oil and keto products
MCT oil, from caprylic (C8) and capric (C10) triglycerides, and spray-dried MCT powders carry keto shakes, creamers and drink mixes. Brands looking for a keto contract manufacturer want clean carriers, minimal sugars and a powder that mixes without oil separating. MCTs and ketones carry no authorised claim, so keto products sell on composition and taste.
White mulberry and bitter melon
White mulberry leaf extract is specified by its 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) content, the compound studied for after-meal glucose response. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia) comes as whole-fruit extracts and as defined peptide ingredients. Neither carries an authorised claim in GB or the EU.
Berberine
Berberine is a bitter, yellow plant alkaloid used in metabolic health formulas. As of October 2026 it can be sold in food supplements in the UK, the EU and the US, and we build UK and EU formulas on standardised plant extracts. We specify every lot by plant species and berberine content, confirmed by HPLC and HPTLC testing, set humidity limits for weighing and filling, and clean down after every run. We position it as a food supplement, not an alternative to a medicine; our berberine supplement manufacturing page covers forms, doses and formats.
Chrononutrition and meal timing
Chrononutrition, the study of when people eat as well as what, suits weight management because several claims are written around the meal: glucomannan before meals; beta-glucans, arabinoxylan, HPMC and pectins as part of the meal. We design formats for that moment, such as a pre-meal stick pack, with label directions that match the claim conditions.
How a weight loss supplement manufacturer matches format to dose
The format follows the dose and the moment of use.
- Capsules carry chromium, botanical extracts and 1 g glucomannan doses taken with water. We make capsules and tablets in-house; see capsule and tablet manufacturing.
- Powders and drink mixes carry gram doses of protein, fibre, meal replacements and MCT, made in the UK; see powder supplement manufacturing and protein powder manufacturing.
- Stick packs and sachets hold one exact pre-meal or with-meal dose, also made in-house; see sachet and stick pack manufacturing.
- Gummies suit apple cider vinegar and micronutrients at modest doses, not gram doses of fibre or protein, with an active assay on every batch as standard.
- Liquids and shots suit micronutrient servings for people who eat less: we make drops, oils and shots in-house.
We make every format in our UK facility, which is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and FDA registered; capsules, gummies and liquids are GMP certified. Sharp, bitter and chalky ingredients such as vinegar, berberine, minerals and fibres go through our flavour development and taste masking before launch.
From claims plan to premix and fill
Development runs in stages: the brief and claims plan, bench samples, taste and mixability work, pilot batches in your format, then stability studies in the final pack with accredited partner laboratories, which set the shelf life and any overages. R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size. In production, materials are weighed against the batch record under our allergen management plan, with yellow colour coding for allergens such as milk and soy. Microgram nutrients such as chromium go into a premix, and powders are blended, checked for uniformity and filled by weight. Label verification on every batch is the critical control point in our HACCP plan.
Chromium and fibre tests, and moisture-proof packs
Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025) as part of every order, to a programme set for each product: active content such as chromium or acetic acid, protein and fibre against the label, heavy metals and microbiology. Quality control releases every batch against its specification, and nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off. Fibres such as glucomannan take up moisture, so packs are high-barrier: sealed tubs or pouches, film sticks, and capsule bottles with desiccants. You receive a certificate of analysis and batch release confirmation for every batch, the product specification, the stability report and our quality pack.
Weight loss claims you can make, and the GLP-1 claims you can't
Claims follow the register, not the trend. The table sets out the position as of October 2026, from the GB nutrition and health claims register, the EU register and US law.
| Market | Claims you can use | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Great Britain | Glucomannan for weight loss in an energy-restricted diet; meal replacement claims for weight loss and for maintenance of weight after weight loss; chromium for normal blood glucose levels; beta-glucans, arabinoxylan, HPMC and pectins for a reduced blood glucose rise after a meal; protein for maintenance of muscle mass. | Any reference to the rate or amount of weight loss, and recommendations by individual doctors. Claims that a product affects GLP-1 or acts like a prescription medicine, which UK advertising rules regard as medicinal claims. |
| European Union | The same wording from the EU register (Regulation (EU) No 432/2012), with the same composition rules for meal replacements. | The same prohibitions; health claims for botanicals such as mulberry, bitter melon or berberine, none of which is authorised; botanical rules that differ by member state. |
| United States | Structure and function claims, such as support for a healthy metabolism, backed by competent and reliable scientific evidence, notified to FDA and carrying FDA's standard disclaimer. | Any claim that makes the product a drug, including claims to substitute for a prescription medicine or augment its action; sales of weight-loss supplements to under-18s where state law restricts them. |
One formula can serve all three markets if it is built for them from the start: a nutrient or fibre at the dose its claim needs for GB and the EU, an evidence file for US structure and function claims, and label copy written for each market. We check every label against each market's wording rules at artwork stage, before printing. Start your project with your target markets, and we build the formula and the claims plan together.
What could change for berberine, chromium doses and US sales
Three areas shape weight management products as of October 2026, and our regulation watch page tracks them every quarter.
- Berberine. EU rules on berberine are under review, so we design every UK and EU berberine formula with a ready alternative built on chromium and fibres.
- Vitamin and mineral limits. EU maximum levels for vitamins and minerals are under review, so we design EU chromium formulas with a ready alternative dose.
- US age limits. New York restricts sales of supplements marketed for weight loss or muscle building to under-18s, and California adds a similar ban from 1 January 2027. We flag both in every US claims plan.

Where this is going
To 2030
Up: metabolic-health culture and fast-growing GLP-1 use lift blood sugar, protein and fibre products, while medicines lead on weight loss itself
To 2036
Up: everyday metabolic support becomes mainstream, often paired with glucose monitors and meal timing
What to watch
GLP-1 medicines absorbing the weight and blood sugar need; weak 'natural GLP-1' science and claims enforcement
Questions brands ask
What does a weight loss supplement manufacturer make today?
Today a weight loss supplement manufacturer makes metabolic health products more than the stimulant pills of the past. At British VitaTech that means GLP-1 companion nutrition, glucomannan and fibre products with authorised claims, meal replacements built to the legal composition, and blood sugar formulas built on chromium. We develop and make each one in the UK, in capsules, tablets, powders, stick packs, gummies or liquids, and the brand owns the formula.
Which weight management claims are authorised in the UK and EU?
A short list, each with conditions. Glucomannan contributes to weight loss in an energy-restricted diet at 3 g a day, in three 1 g doses with water before meals. Meal replacements carry claims for weight loss and for maintenance of weight after weight loss when they meet a set composition. Chromium contributes to the maintenance of normal blood glucose levels, and no claim may mention the rate or amount of weight loss.
Can a supplement claim to work like GLP-1 medicines?
No. No authorised claim in GB or the EU refers to GLP-1, and UK advertising rules regard claims of an effect on GLP-1, or comparisons with prescription weight-loss injections, as medicinal claims a food supplement cannot make. In the US, claims to substitute for or augment a medicine make a supplement a drug. We build GLP-1 companion products on protein, fibre and micronutrients with authorised wording instead, and check every label against these rules at artwork stage.
Do you make private label weight loss products?
We develop bespoke weight management formulas rather than relabelling stock products, so a brand moving on from a private label weight loss range gets a formula of its own. A bespoke formula meets the claim conditions, suits the format your customers use and cannot be copied from a catalogue. R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size. Your formula is yours.
Which format suits a weight management supplement?
The format follows the dose and the moment of use. Glucomannan suits capsules or powders taken with water before meals; meal replacements and protein suit powders; single pre-meal doses suit stick packs; apple cider vinegar and vitamins suit gummies; and micronutrients suit drops and shots. We make every format in our UK facility, which is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and capsules, gummies and liquids are GMP certified.
Can you make keto and MCT products?
Yes. As a keto contract manufacturer we make MCT oil and spray-dried MCT powders into shakes, creamers and drink mixes, built for clean carriers, minimal sugars and easy mixing. MCTs and ketones carry no authorised health claims in GB or the EU, so keto products sell on composition and taste. For exogenous ketones, we confirm novel food status for each target market before formulation.
Can berberine still be sold?
Yes. As of October 2026, berberine can be sold in food supplements in the UK, the EU and the US, and we build UK and EU formulas on standardised plant extracts. EU rules on berberine are under review, so every UK and EU formula comes with a ready alternative built on chromium and fibres. We make berberine capsules, tablets and powders, and confirm berberine content and plant identity on every batch through accredited partner laboratories.
