Supplements for perimenopause, menopause and the years after
Menopause supplements made in the UK for premium brands come as capsules, tablets, gummies, liquids, powders and sachets, and every one is a custom formula we develop as a menopause supplement manufacturer. Each formula is built for perimenopause, menopause or the years after it, on nutrients that carry authorised claims at the doses the register sets: at least 400 mg of calcium and 15 µg of vitamin D per daily portion for the calcium and vitamin D claim for post-menopausal women, and a source level of vitamin B6, 0.21 mg, for its claim. Botanicals go in to each target market's rules, each batch comes with a certificate of analysis, and the brand owns the formula.
Menopause sits within our women's health supplement manufacturing range, and formulas for bone and muscle in the years after it sit alongside our healthy ageing supplement manufacturing range. Our women's health range also covers prenatal and fertility, hormone balance and intimate health formulas. BCG estimates unmet longevity demand from women in perimenopause and menopause at 350 billion US dollars, and found that these women already spend more on longevity than any other group in its survey of 10,608 people (BCG, 2026).
Calcium, vitamin D and other claimable nutrients
- Calcium as carbonate, about 40% calcium and the densest choice, or as citrate, about 21% calcium, which dissolves without stomach acid.
- Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) from lanolin, or from lichen for vegan products, as an oil or a protected powder.
- Vitamin K as phylloquinone or menaquinone, for bone formulas.
- Vitamin B6 as pyridoxine hydrochloride or pyridoxal 5'-phosphate.
- Magnesium in the salts set out on our magnesium supplement manufacturing page.
- Creatine monohydrate and collagen peptides for muscle and bone formulas. A 12-month study in 131 postmenopausal women used 5 g a day of specific collagen peptides (König and colleagues, Nutrients, 2018). See creatine supplement manufacturing and collagen supplement manufacturing.
Botanicals and phytoestrogens
- Soy and red clover isoflavones, standardised to total isoflavones such as genistein and daidzein. EFSA's 2015 risk assessment covered food supplements with isolated isoflavones for peri- and post-menopausal women, which typically provide 35 to 150 mg a day (EFSA, 2015).
- S-equol. Gut bacteria make equol from the soy isoflavone daidzein, but only in some people, and the form they make is S-equol.
- Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa root), which we offer where it is a food or dietary ingredient, as in US dietary supplements.
- Sage (Salvia officinalis leaf), a culinary herb.
- Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus root), an Ayurvedic botanical.
We screen every botanical for novel food status in-house against the public registers, specify each extract by plant part, extraction solvent and marker compounds, and confirm its status for each target market before formulation.
Calcium bulk, isoflavone forms and the iron question after 50
The 400 mg calcium floor and the upper levels
The calcium and vitamin D claim for post-menopausal women needs at least 400 mg of calcium and 15 µg of vitamin D per daily portion. At about 40% calcium, 400 mg of calcium means roughly 1 g of calcium carbonate, so the daily portion is usually split across capsules or tablets, or moved to a powder or sachet. Upper levels set the ceiling: EFSA's figures for adults are 2,500 mg a day for calcium, 100 µg for vitamin D and 12 mg for vitamin B6 (EFSA, 2025). Vitamin B6 needs only a source level, 0.21 mg, to carry its claim, and the NHS advises no more than 10 mg a day from supplements.
Isoflavone forms, calcium salts and iron
Isoflavones occur in soy mostly as glycosides, such as genistin and daidzin, which gut enzymes convert to the aglycones genistein and daidzein, so we specify which form an extract is standardised to. Calcium carbonate depends on stomach acid to dissolve; citrate does not. Calcium also reduces iron absorption when the two are taken together. The NHS puts women's iron needs at 14.8 mg a day from 19 to 49 and 8.7 mg a day from 50, so a formula for women over 50 can leave iron out and avoid the clash.
Vitamin D3 and extracts that attract water
Vitamin D3 degrades with heat, light and oxygen, so we specify protected grades, pack against light and set overages so the label value holds to the end of shelf life. Botanical extracts attract water, so we control humidity during weighing and blending and check moisture before capsules are filled.
Where a menopause supplement ends and a medicine begins
The line between a food supplement and a medicine is drawn by the claim, and in the UK the ingredient can draw it too.
No symptom claims or HRT comparisons in GB
A food supplement may carry only authorised health claims. UK advertising guidance says that claims to treat or help menopause or perimenopause symptoms are unlikely to be acceptable for food supplements, and that copy implying equivalence to hormone replacement therapy presents a supplement as having a medicinal effect, so we leave symptom claims and HRT comparisons out of the copy. Black cohosh and sage products for the menopause sit on the medicines side of the line: the MHRA registers them as traditional herbal medicines, and a food supplement cannot borrow their indication. We make food supplements, so a UK menopause formula from us rests on nutrients with authorised claims.
The claims that fit this life stage come from the register. A reduction of disease risk claim for calcium and vitamin D concerns bone mineral in post-menopausal women. It may be used only on food supplements that provide at least 400 mg of calcium and 15 µg of vitamin D per daily portion and target women aged 50 and over, and the consumer must be told that the effect needs a daily intake of at least 1,200 mg of calcium and 20 µg of vitamin D from all sources. Brands receive the exact authorised wording at label review. Alongside it sit nutrient claims such as "Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity", "Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function", "Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue" and "Protein contributes to the maintenance of muscle mass", each for a product that is at least a source of the nutrient. For adults over 55 in regular resistance training, "Daily creatine consumption can enhance the effect of resistance training on muscle strength in adults over the age of 55" applies at 3 g a day. As of October 2026, no claim for isoflavones, black cohosh, sage or shatavari is authorised.
EU claims and national botanical lists
The same claims and conditions apply in the EU. Botanical claims remain on hold, and each member state decides which botanicals may go into food supplements, so we build EU formulas to the list of each country you sell in.
Menopause as a natural state in US law
Botanicals such as black cohosh can be dietary ingredients. FDA regards menopause as a natural state: a claim about a common condition associated with it that causes no significant or permanent harm can be a structure and function claim, while a claim about a serious or uncommon condition is a disease claim. Each claim needs competent and reliable scientific evidence, notification to FDA and FDA's standard disclaimer. A sentence that is lawful on a US label can make the same product a medicine in the UK, so we write each market's copy separately.
Capsules for botanicals, powders for calcium, gummies for vitamin D
- Capsules suit botanical extracts, isoflavones and micronutrient blends, and are GMP certified. Tablets, also made in-house, carry dense calcium formulas. See capsule and tablet manufacturing.
- Powders, sachets and stick packs carry gram doses of calcium, magnesium, collagen, protein and creatine in one serving, and are made in the UK. See powder supplement manufacturing.
- Gummies carry vitamin D, vitamin B6 and small doses of magnesium in a daily habit, and are GMP certified, with an active assay on every batch. See gummy manufacturing.
- Liquids, such as vitamin D oils, are GMP certified.
Packs follow the format: HDPE bottles with induction seals and desiccants, or blisters, for capsules and tablets; bottles, jars or high-barrier pouches for gummies; amber glass for vitamin D oils; and tubs, sachets or stick packs for calcium, collagen and protein powders.
Quarantine, encapsulation and soy control for menopause capsules
Every formula runs through our development stages before production: brief, evidence review, formulation, bench samples, blind sensory panels, a pilot batch on production equipment, stability in the final pack, and scale-up. Each stage leaves a record you keep. Production then follows six steps.
- Specification. We set each active's form, grade, marker content and limits, and every supplier passes our approval process before any material is used.
- Goods-in. Materials stay in quarantine until their identity and certificates of analysis match the specification.
- Dispensing and pre-blending. Microgram nutrients such as vitamin D and vitamin B6 are pre-blended with part of the filler so they spread evenly.
- Blending. The full blend runs to a set time, with uniformity checks before filling.
- Encapsulation. Capsules are filled and checked for weight throughout the run.
- Packing and labelling. Labels are verified on every batch, the critical control point in our HACCP plan.
The critical steps are dose uniformity for microgram nutrients, moisture control for extracts that attract water, and label verification. Each product type has its own HACCP study, reviewed every year, and our allergen management plan, with yellow colour coding, controls soy from goods-in to label.
Every label value a menopause supplement manufacturer should certify
Ask for the specification and the certificates of analysis behind every label value. Ours set the tests for each product and market, and accredited partner laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025) test every batch as part of every order, as our testing and batch release page explains.
- Identity: botanical identity by HPTLC, microscopy or DNA methods, chosen per material.
- Content: isoflavones by HPLC against the specified total; vitamins D and B6 by HPLC or LC-MS; calcium and magnesium by ICP-OES.
- Contaminants: lead, cadmium and mercury by ICP-MS against UK and EU limits for food supplements, plus polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and pesticide residues for botanical extracts.
- Microbiology: total viable count, yeasts and moulds, and pathogens.
- Stability: real-time and accelerated studies, so vitamin D and isoflavone values hold to the end of shelf life.
Every batch is released by quality control against its specification, and nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off. Every batch comes with a certificate of analysis and a batch release confirmation against the agreed specification. We keep three retained samples per batch for shelf life plus one year, and a full mock recall, forward and backward with mass balance, runs in seconds. We make every format in our UK facility, which is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and FDA registered. BRCGS implementation under way, certification expected in early 2027. Your formula is yours, including its specification and test plan. Start your project with your life stage, markets and claims, and we build the formula around them.

Questions brands ask
What does a menopause supplement manufacturer do?
A menopause supplement manufacturer develops and produces supplements for women in perimenopause and menopause, from formulation to finished product. At British VitaTech that means building formulas on nutrients with authorised claims, choosing botanicals that each target market allows, setting doses against the register and EFSA's upper levels, and writing the copy each market allows. We make capsules, tablets, gummies, liquids, powders and sachets in the UK, and the brand owns the formula.
Can a menopause supplement make claims about symptoms?
Not in GB or the EU, where, as of October 2026, no such claim is authorised. UK advertising guidance says the menopause is not a medical condition, but that claims to treat or help its symptoms are unlikely to be acceptable for food supplements. In the US, FDA regards menopause as a natural state, so a claim about a common condition linked to it that causes no significant or permanent harm can be a structure and function claim. We write each market's copy separately.
Which authorised claims suit a menopause supplement?
As of October 2026, the register offers several routes. A reduction of disease risk claim for calcium and vitamin D names post-menopausal women and needs at least 400 mg of calcium and 15 µg of vitamin D per daily portion, for women aged 50 and over. Nutrient claims such as "Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity" and "Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue" need only a source level. Brands receive the exact authorised wording at label review.
Can you make a black cohosh supplement?
For the US, yes. As of October 2026, black cohosh can be a dietary ingredient there, with structure and function claims, so we make US capsules and tablets with the extract standardised to its marker compounds and its identity confirmed against an authenticated reference. We offer it wherever it is a food or dietary ingredient. In the UK, black cohosh menopause products are registered traditional herbal medicines, and we make food supplements, so our UK menopause formulas rest on nutrients with authorised claims.
Can you formulate with isoflavones or S-equol?
Yes, where each market's rules allow them. EFSA's 2015 risk assessment covered food supplements with isolated isoflavones for peri- and post-menopausal women, which typically provide 35 to 150 mg a day; EFSA could not derive a single health-based guidance value and said the doses and durations used in studies could serve as guidance. No isoflavone claim is authorised in GB or the EU, and we confirm the status of isoflavones and S-equol for each target market before formulation.
Which formats suit menopause supplements?
The format follows the dose. Calcium at the levels its claims need is bulky, so it suits tablets, powders and sachets. Capsules carry botanical extracts, isoflavones and micronutrient blends. Gummies suit vitamin D, vitamin B6 and small doses of magnesium in a daily habit. We make every format in our UK facility, which is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and capsules, gummies and liquids are GMP certified.
Do you make private label menopause supplements?
We develop bespoke menopause formulas rather than relabelling stock blends. A bespoke formula gives you the life stage, nutrients, botanicals and doses you choose, claims that hold in each market and control of your supply. R&D is a paid stage that can be included with an order of the right size. Your formula is yours, including its specification and test plan, and we prepare it for the UK, EU and US.
