Energy formulas we make, from B complex tablets to PQQ

When premium brands need custom energy supplements, our Leicester facility acts as their energy supplement manufacturer, from the first formula to the finished pack. We make B complex capsules and tablets, vitamin B12 sprays and shots, effervescent tablets with vitamin C and B vitamins, iron and magnesium formulas, caffeine-free gummies and stick packs, and cellular energy formulas that pair PQQ with B vitamins. We build energy formulas on the nutrients that carry authorised tiredness and fatigue claims, from microgram doses of vitamin B12 to full doses of magnesium, and every batch comes with a certificate of analysis from our partner laboratories. Energy sits within our vitamin and mineral supplement manufacturing. Your formula is yours.

Energy is one of the main reasons people buy supplements: in the Council for Responsible Nutrition's 2024 survey, run by Ipsos, 27% of US supplement users named energy as a reason, behind overall health and wellness at 42% and immune health at 30%.

Nine nutrients carry the fatigue claim, and each has a form to choose

Nine nutrients carry the authorised claim on tiredness and fatigue in GB and the EU. Each needs at least a source level, 15% of its nutrient reference value per daily dose, and we choose every form from the permitted lists. The table sets out the position as of October 2026.

Nutrient Forms we use Source level per daily dose EFSA adult upper level
Vitamin B12 Cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, 5'-deoxyadenosylcobalamin 0.375 µg None set
Folate Folic acid, calcium L-methylfolate 30 µg 1,000 µg, folic acid and methylfolates combined
Vitamin B6 Pyridoxine hydrochloride, pyridoxal 5'-phosphate 0.21 mg 12 mg
Riboflavin Riboflavin, riboflavin 5'-phosphate 0.21 mg None set
Niacin Nicotinamide, nicotinic acid 2.4 mg 900 mg as nicotinamide; 10 mg as nicotinic acid
Pantothenic acid Calcium D-pantothenate 0.9 mg None set
Vitamin C Ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbate 12 mg None set
Iron Ferrous bisglycinate, ferrous fumarate, ferric pyrophosphate 2.1 mg No upper level; a safe level of 40 mg
Magnesium Citrate, bisglycinate, oxide 56.25 mg 250 mg from supplements

Methylcobalamin and 5'-deoxyadenosylcobalamin are the forms the body uses, and methylated B12 and folate sell well on a label. Yet the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements reports no evidence that absorption of vitamin B12 from supplements varies by form (2025). So we choose the form for its stability in your format and for your brand's positioning, and the label states exactly which form is inside.

Minerals need grade decisions too. Iron forms differ in taste, colour and how readily they react with other nutrients, and coated grades keep iron away from the vitamin C and oils it would oxidise. Magnesium oxide is about 60% magnesium, against about 14% for a fully reacted bisglycinate, which decides whether a full dose fits a capsule; our magnesium supplement manufacturing page compares every form.

Why a 1,000 µg B12 tablet delivers about 13 µg

Development is a paid stage, which can be included with an order of the right size. It sets dose, form and protection together.

B12 dosed versus B12 absorbed

Vitamin B12 shows why dose is not the same as delivery. Absorption through intrinsic factor falls sharply once about 1 to 2 µg arrives at once, and only about 2% of a 500 µg dose and 1.3% of a 1,000 µg dose is absorbed (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, 2025). A 1,000 µg tablet therefore delivers about 13 µg, around five times the 2.5 µg reference value. We set B12 for the claim, the format and the story, not for the biggest number on the pack.

Iron and vitamin C work together: "Vitamin C increases iron absorption" is itself an authorised claim, for products that are at least a source of vitamin C. Calcium and zinc compete with iron, so we keep high-dose calcium out of iron formulas or split them between servings. Niacin goes in as nicotinamide in most energy formulas, because nicotinic acid has an EFSA upper level of 10 mg a day against 900 mg for nicotinamide. Vitamin B6 needs restraint at 12 mg a day, and supplemental magnesium at 250 mg (EFSA, 2025).

Stability of B vitamins in your format

Format and form must match. In solution tests, cyanocobalamin was the most stable form of B12, followed by hydroxocobalamin and then methylcobalamin. At pH 3, methylcobalamin lost 79%, and beside ascorbic acid it lost 70 to 76%. Under UV light, methylcobalamin and hydroxocobalamin lost more than 30%, while cyanocobalamin lost 4%. Sorbitol cut the methylcobalamin losses to 12% at pH 3 and 16% with ascorbic acid (Lie and colleagues, International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research, 2020).

That matters because gummies set at a low pH and effervescent tablets carry vitamin C. So acidic and vitamin C-rich formats use cyanocobalamin, or methylcobalamin with protection and an overage proven in stability, and light-sensitive forms go into opaque packs. Vitamin C degrades with moisture and oxygen, and traces of iron and copper speed its oxidation, so we keep reactive pairs apart with coated grades. Stability studies on every new formula set each overage, so the label holds at the end of shelf life.

Cellular energy: PQQ and the mitochondria

Mitochondria turn food into usable energy, and brands now build formulas around them. PQQ (pyrroloquinoline quinone) leads that group. In mouse liver cells, PQQ increased mitochondrial DNA, respiration and the activity of mitochondrial enzymes through the PGC-1α pathway (Chowanadisai and colleagues, Journal of Biological Chemistry, 2010). Human data are thinner: in men in endurance training, PQQ had little effect on performance, and it is not accepted as a vitamin (Jonscher and colleagues, Biomolecules, 2021). It carries no authorised health claim.

PQQ disodium salt is an authorised novel food in GB and the EU for food supplements at up to 20 mg a day, for adults excluding pregnant and lactating women, and the label must state that restriction. For US formulas, we source PQQ from a supplier whose dietary ingredient documentation covers supplement use. We pair PQQ with B vitamins, iron or magnesium, so the label carries authorised claims while PQQ tells the cellular energy story. Coenzyme Q10 and creatine fit the same story, but neither carries a claim on tiredness; creatine's authorised claim covers physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise, at 3 g a day, in foods for adults performing high intensity exercise.

Magnesium needs a stick pack, while sprays suit microgram doses

We make every format below in Leicester, in a facility that is ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP certified by BSI, and FDA registered. BRCGS implementation under way, certification expected in early 2027.

  • Capsules and tablets carry full B complexes with iron and magnesium, and bilayer tablets keep reactive nutrients apart; see capsule and tablet manufacturing.
  • Effervescent tablets turn vitamin C and B vitamins into a morning drink, packed in moisture-tight tubes; see effervescent tablet manufacturing.
  • Gummies suit vitamin B12, folate, vitamin C and modest iron doses with taste work; magnesium needs more room than a gummy offers. Every gummy batch gets an active assay as standard; see gummy manufacturing.
  • Liquids, shots and oral sprays deliver B12 in measured microgram doses; see liquid supplement manufacturing.
  • Powders and stick packs carry full doses of magnesium with B vitamins and electrolytes, and all-in-one blends; see greens and all-in-one powders.

A daily multivitamin can carry the same claims across a wider formula; see multivitamin manufacturing.

Premixed vitamins and methylcobalamin shielded from light

Our HACCP study for each product type, reviewed annually, sets the critical control points. An energy tablet, capsule or gummy runs through these steps at our Leicester facility.

  1. Approve and receive. Every vitamin, mineral and active comes from a supplier approved before first use, with its certificate of analysis checked against our specification, including the B12 form and the PQQ grade.
  2. Weigh and dispense. Materials are weighed against the batch record under our allergen management plan, with yellow colour coding.
  3. Premix. Microgram nutrients such as vitamin B12 and folate are diluted step by step into a carrier, so every unit carries its dose.
  4. Blend. The premix joins the main blend for a validated time, and uniformity is checked.
  5. Press, fill or deposit. Tablets are compressed and checked for weight, hardness and disintegration; capsules are checked for fill weight; gummies are deposited with heat-sensitive vitamins added late.
  6. Coat and pack. Film coats protect light-sensitive forms, effervescent tablets go into moisture-tight tubes, and opaque bottles or blisters shield methylcobalamin. Label verification on every batch is our critical control point, CCP-01.
  7. Retain and release. We keep three retained samples per batch for shelf life plus one year, and quality control releases each batch against its specification.

Tiredness and fatigue wording, not an energy boost

As of October 2026, these rules decide what an energy label can say. We design every formula to the rules of the markets you sell in.

The register's exact fatigue wording in the UK and EU

The register's wording is exact. "Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue" has matching claims for folate, iron, niacin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and vitamin C, while magnesium's reads "Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue". Each needs the nutrient at least at a source level. Claims on energy-yielding metabolism, such as "Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism", add a second layer. Wording that goes beyond the register's meaning, such as promising an energy boost, is not authorised, and PQQ, coenzyme Q10 and botanicals such as ginseng carry no authorised claim. The label declares each nutrient per daily portion, with its percentage of the reference value.

Energy metabolism statements and iron warnings in the US

A US energy supplement carries a Supplement Facts panel with % Daily Values. Structure/function statements, such as support for energy metabolism, need competent and reliable scientific evidence, notification to FDA and FDA's standard disclaimer. FDA's boxed iron warning is required on iron supplements in any solid oral dosage form, such as tablets, capsules and gummies, and packs holding 250 mg or more of elemental iron in total need child-resistant packaging. We prepare the label, the claim file and the packaging specification for each market.

B12 at microgram doses, checked by an energy supplement manufacturer

Every batch is tested by accredited partner laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025), and batch testing is part of every order. Nothing is dispatched without quality control sign-off. Our testing and batch release page explains each method.

Test Typical method Why it matters
Vitamin B12 and folate LC-MS/MS or microbiological assay Microgram doses hold to the end of shelf life
Other B vitamins and vitamin C HPLC Each declared value within tolerance
Iron and magnesium ICP-OES or ICP-MS Elemental content matches the label
PQQ HPLC against a reference standard The daily dose stays within the 20 mg condition
Heavy metals ICP-MS Lead, cadmium and mercury within legal limits
Microbiology Total viable count, yeasts and moulds, pathogens Safe through shelf life, gummies and liquids included
Disintegration Pharmacopoeial methods Tablets and capsules release as designed
Stability ICH Q1A(R2) storage conditions Sets overages and shelf life

Questions brands ask

Which energy claims can a supplement make in the UK and EU?

Only the register's authorised claims, in its exact wording, as of October 2026. Nine nutrients carry the tiredness claim, such as "Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue": folate, iron, magnesium, niacin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and vitamin C. Magnesium's wording reads "a reduction". Each needs at least a source level, 15% of the reference value per daily dose. PQQ, coenzyme Q10 and botanicals carry no authorised claim.

Is methylcobalamin better than cyanocobalamin in an energy supplement?

Not for absorption: the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements reports no evidence that B12 absorption from supplements varies by form. The difference is stability and positioning. In solution tests, cyanocobalamin was the most stable form, while methylcobalamin lost 79% at pH 3 and 70 to 76% beside vitamin C (Lie and colleagues, 2020). So we use cyanocobalamin in acidic gummies and effervescents, or protect methylcobalamin and prove its overage in stability, and the label names the form.

How much vitamin B12 should an energy supplement contain?

Enough for the claim and the story, not the biggest number. The tiredness claim needs only 0.375 µg, 15% of the 2.5 µg reference value, and EFSA has set no upper level for B12. Absorption through intrinsic factor falls once 1 to 2 µg arrives at once, so only about 1.3% of a 1,000 µg dose is absorbed, roughly 13 µg (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, 2025). We set the dose with your format and positioning.

Can you make caffeine-free energy supplements?

Yes. A caffeine-free energy formula builds on the nutrients with authorised tiredness and energy-yielding metabolism claims, B vitamins, iron, magnesium and vitamin C, in a format people enjoy: gummies, effervescent drinks, oral sprays or stick packs. PQQ, coenzyme Q10 or creatine can add a cellular energy story without carrying a tiredness claim. We develop and make every format in Leicester, and your formula is yours.

Can we use PQQ in an energy supplement?

Yes, within its conditions. As of October 2026, PQQ disodium salt is an authorised novel food in GB and the EU for food supplements at up to 20 mg a day, for adults excluding pregnant and lactating women, and the label must state that restriction. It carries no authorised health claim, so we pair it with B vitamins, iron or magnesium. For the US, we source PQQ from a supplier whose dietary ingredient documentation covers supplement use.

Which formats suit energy supplements?

It depends on the dose and the routine. Capsules and tablets carry full B complexes with iron and magnesium, and bilayer tablets keep reactive nutrients apart. Effervescent tablets make a morning drink of vitamin C and B vitamins. Gummies suit B12, folate, vitamin C and modest iron doses, while magnesium needs more room. Sprays and shots deliver microgram B12, and stick packs carry full magnesium doses. We make every format in Leicester and match the B12 form to each one.

What changes on a US energy supplement label?

A US label carries a Supplement Facts panel with % Daily Values, as of October 2026, and structure/function statements, such as support for energy metabolism, need competent and reliable scientific evidence, notification to FDA and FDA's standard disclaimer. Iron supplements in solid oral form, such as tablets, capsules and gummies, carry FDA's boxed iron warning, and packs with 250 mg or more of elemental iron in total need child-resistant packaging. We prepare the US label and claim file alongside the UK and EU versions.
